Summer Shoe Trends
Braided, Block Heels, and Wedges Oh My!
May 2021
As warmer weather gets closer, the sandals and wedges are out in full force. I am very particular about my switch from winter and summer shoes and once I go to the wedges, those booties are up forever. One thing I am excited about this season is the variety of options for on trend footwear. The wedges and open-toe sandals will always be a classic, but this summer, we are seeing more variety when it comes to style, heel height, and colors. As a woman on the go, I am personally excited about the lower block heel trend and what that means for my feet after a long day at work!
Check out some of the trends listed below and my take on them. Spoiler alert: I am loving most of them, but there are a few that I am still warming up to.
The Sneakers and Dress Trend
Of all of the trends to emerge this year, this is the one I am most excited about. I am a dress girl through and through, but sometimes it is nice to not have to wear heels all of the time. Insert the white sneaker trend! I have this pair and this one and I wear both equally (and these are the socks that I wear with them). This trend has been all over Eruope and I am so happy it has finally made its way to the states. I will definitely be looking for a pink pair to add to my collection this summer.
Square Toe Sandals Trend
Ok, so for this trend it is a yes and a no for me. I have 2 pairs of what I would call moderately square-toed but I have seen some that are in fact square, corners and all. To me, those just don't compliment my feet. However, if this is your thing, you do you, boo. My suggestion, if you are jumping on this trend, invest in neutral colors. I am not sure how many seasons this trend will last so I wouldn't go too crazy this summer!
The Braided Sandal Trend
This is another trend that I am on the fence about. I have found some really good low and high-heel braided sandals, but I have also seen some that just aren't that cute. I feel a little bit like Goldy Locks, but there is an amount of braided that is just right: not too skinny and not too thick. This is another trend that may not make it into next summer so if you have going to jump on it, my suggestion is less is more. Or, if you want, go all out this summer!
The Block Heel Trend
I feel like I am a little bit ahead of this trend because I have been rocking the block heel for years. These shoes have worked their way into my closet for one reason: comfort. I am a big fan of heels at work, but I just can't rock the pointy toe stilettos all of the time. The block heel is the perfect combination of the stiletto and the wedge. What is new this year is the lower heel height. This summer, the 1-2 inch heel has made its way onto the stage and you know I am all about anything that is more comfortable!
The Wedge Trend
You already know that I will be rocking wedges for the rest of my life, whether or not they are on trend. I can stand on them all day long and dance the night away without even noticing they are on my feet. Each year I am on the hunt for a new pair to add to my collection and so far these have been a fan favorite. I am also looking to add a black pair this summer. I have yet to find the perfect ones though (not too much black and not too much brown), so if you have a recommendation, send it my way!
