Top 4 Trends for Fall
Essential Pieces for Fall That Will Last Past Just This Season
While cardigans and chunky sweaters will never go out of style, there are a few more fall trends that you can also feel safe adding to your wardrobe this year. If you are like me and have yet to commit to a capsule wardrobe, these are several pieces that you can add to your closet and be able to turn to year after year. All of these trends and styles can also serve as transition pieces so they span several seasons. Let me know if I missed one of your favorites!
Midis and Mules
I may be fast and free with the white after labor day rule, but one fashion rule I stick to is once I wear booties or boots, I don't go back to wedges. However, there are days in September and October that start off cold enough for booties but finish warm enough for sandals. Therefore, I need something in between...and in comes the mule. While I have not jumped on the clog train yet, mules have quickly become my go-to for a transition shoe. It still has the open back so they feel like a sandal, but the closed-toe makes it look like a bootie. I have them in both black and brown and have already worn them several times this year.
Midi dresses can be tough, especially if you are more petite, but it really is about choosing the right accessories. I always make sure to wear some kind of heel with mine so I can elongate my legs. The length of the dress is already cutting your legs in 2/3 so the heel is a must. I also either add a belt or a cropped jacket to define my waist. This adds dimension to the outfit and can help define the smallest section of your body. Finally, a fun color or a special detail, like this collar, always help add interest in any outfit!
Denim and Cargo Jackets
If you don't have a denim jacket yet, then what are you waiting for?! I am embarrassed enough to say that I have three...even though they all serve a purpose. I have one that is more form fitting, one that is boyfriend style, and I just got this fabulous pearl-encrusted one that I have been dying to style!
I find myself styling denim jackets all year round. But I use them the most when I travel. Most recently, I wore this look on our fall break trip and the styled the same denim jacket with joggers for the flights back.
The denim jacket that I added most recently into my collect is this black one from 1822 Denim. So far, I have only styled it with white dresses (I have a thing about too much denim on denim. I know Britney did it...but should I??) If you have any tips or tricks on how you style yours, send them my way!
Blazers. All Of The Blazers!
Oh blazers, how I love thee. Let me count the ways...
1. They are a staple for any working woman's wardrobe. You can throw it on over a button down or cute shirt like this one to immediately take your look from casual to professional throughout the day. My most recent blazer purchase was this one: the classic, black blazer.
2. They are soooo much cuter than a jacket. I hate wearing a jacket out to dinner or out for the night when I don't have to, so the blazer is the perfect option. It will keep you warm and you don't have to worry about keeping up with a bulky jacket for the night. Unless, of course, it's this jacket.
3. They can add a pop of color to any outfit. My favorite way to style the blazer is with jeans and heels, which means you have a blank canvas to work with. I wore this pink one last year in February and even picked up another one in a lighter shade for this year.
Stay tuned for next month when I release the top trends for winter! I will give you a hint...animal print is definitely involved. But, it is not leopard. There's a new reptile in town!
