The Best Leggings, Tops and Everything In Between
My motto has always been "if you look good, you feel good", and workout gear is no exception. However, while I can get away with a pair of shoes being slightly too big, poor fitting workout gear can ruin a workout. There's nothing worse than leggings that fall down during your run, shoes that give you blisters, or tops that are not supportive.
Each of these workout pieces have been tested with both high and medium intensity workouts. So if you are looking for the best fitting leggings or the most supportive workout tops, I have got you covered!
Workout Tops
ThirdLove (all intensity levels): I am usually a traditional sports bra fan, but was so impressed with the quality and fit of this sports bra. I wore this for both yoga and running and it stayed in place for both workouts. I also wore these matching leggings for running several times and have zero complaints. They are high waisted, have pockets, and did not fall down.
Amazon workout top (medium intensity): I have 3 of these crop workout tops from Amazon. They are cropped, but have built in padding. I wear a size 36C and got the medium and it fits great. I even wore this while running and felt secure the whole time.
Athleta top (all intensity levels): This is probably my favorite workout top. It is the priciest of the 3, but definitely worth it. It has built in padding, the razorback detail, and definitely sweat-wicking material. I wouldn't call this length cropped, but it hits right at the top of my waist.
Leggings
Amazon leggings (low intensity): These leggings have a cult following with over 40,000 reviews. I have 4 different pairs, (the black and grey camo, regular cameo, black, and gray) but I would not recommend them for high intensity workouts. I have worn them for running and I spent the majority of the run pulling them up every tenth of a mile. They are however, perfect for travel, errands, or lounging around. Also, if you like these leggings, definitely grab a pair of these joggers by the same brand!
KatieK Active leggings (medium intensity): My normal length preference is the 7/8 length, but when it is freezing outside, I prefer the full length style. These are a motto style with mesh inserts that add a little bit of flare. The are high waisted and also have pockets, which is a must have for me when running!
Sweaty Betty (high intensity): It is pretty hard to beat Lululemon leggings, but in my opinion, these are just as good. I also lean toward this brand because the sales are much better than anything you'll ever see from Lululemon. I have both this pair and these as well (both are high waisted, 7/8 length, and have pockets). I would recommend signing up for their emails so when they do run a sale, you can hop on and scoop up some great deals.
Lululemon
There is a reason why everyone raves about Lululemon...they really are that good. However, it can be very pricey and the sales aren't usually that great (which is why I recommend checking Sweaty Betty first). The best sale of the year is the day after Christmas, Boxing Day, but every once in a while I will get a giftcard and then all bets are off.
If I am going to spend that kind of money on workout clothes then they need to be efficient. If you are looking for lounge leggings then the Align leggings are for you. Personally, I would rather grab the Amazon ones if I am lounging.
Running and High Intensity
Fast and Free: this is my top pick for leggings that are made for high intensity. I prefer the 23 or 25 inch lengths, and as always, they have to be high waisted and have pockets. This is the most recent pair that I bought.
Wunder Train: these are a close second to the Fast and Free leggings. The main difference is the pocket on these is hidden in the back waistband. It is still effective and stays in place while I run, it is just different.
